A Walk around Southbank Melbourne with my Nikon D7100 Infrared Camera

I had about 90 minutes to grab some images starting at Southbank near the Evan Walker arch footbridge.
The only camera on hand was my Nikon D7100 which had been converted to take Infrared.

Some notable buildings include the Eureka Tower and Australia 108 located in Southbank and the heritage Flinders Street Station.

Of some interest is the rapid development of the Southbank region. Whilst studying Civil Engineering at the University of Melbourne (mid 1960s), we learnt that the foundation conditions to the south of the Yarra River was very compressible silt and unsuitable for shallow footings. Today Southbank houses many of Melbourne and Australia's tallest buildings - a far cry from the 1-6 storey buildings.

The Melbourne Arts Centre struggled with the State Theatre building which was originally intended to house the theatres underground with the landmark Spire being a pointer to something interesting on the site. The enclosure to the Theatres building was called the "bathtub" and it had to be anchored down against floating in the poor conditions.

At the southern exit from the Kings Street Bridge there was a noticeable hollow as the road settled on the silty soil whereas the bridge proper was supported on deep piles.
